Tamil Nadu: 20 boats, 229 fishermen yet to receive cyclone alert October 11,2018   |  Source: The Times of India

More boats from Kanyakumari district that were engaged in deep sea fishing in the Arabian Sea, have received information on the cyclone and are returning to the shore. The number of boats that have not received information was 46 with around 510 fishermen on Monday. It was reduced to 20 boats with 229 fishermen on Tuesday morning. The fisheries department officials said that efforts were on to pass information to these boats.
Officials said that of the 646 boats that were in the sea on October 3, as many as 549 boats had returned to the shores till Tuesday morning. “Seventy-seven boats that received the information are heading to the nearest shores. Seventeen boats have received information through Oman as they were fishing close to their territorial waters and are heading to the nearest shore,” an official said.

He said that around 100 boats from Kanyakumari district reached Gujarat, Kerala, Karnataka, Maharashtra and Goa costs. However, there were allegations by fishermen who reached Goa that they were struggling without water. One of the fishermen R Anto, 45, from Chinnathurai, said that their boat Velankanni Annai from Poothurai in Kanyakumari district reached Goa early on October 5.
