Kerala: Civic body conducts cleaning drive at Puthiyappa harbour and central fish market by Sreedevi Chitharanjan May 15,2019   |  Source: The times of India

Kozhikode corporation authorities have carried out cleaning drive at Puthiyappa harbour and Central market on Tuesday. The cleaning drive on the day was conducted as part of the pre-monsoon sanitation drive in the corporation limit. Corporation contingent workers along with fishermen, fish selling commission agents, members of trade unions of CITU, STU and INTUC, Vyapari Vyavasai Samithi, Vyapari Vyavasayi Ekopana Samithi, chicken stall owners conducted the massive cleaning drive at central market.

Around 200 persons conducted the cleaning, removal of filth from the drainage channels passing through the central market to clear the blockage of waste flowing to the drainage channel from the fish market. Corporation deputy mayor Meera Darshak inaugurated the cleaning drive at Central market.

Corporation health standing committee chairman K V Baburaj inaugurated the cleaning drive held at Puthiyappa harbour in the morning. During the cleaning drive held at the harbour, the corporation sanitation workers removed the piled up plastic and dumped waste from the harbour and its surrounding areas, cleaned the drainage channel near the harbour and destroyed the mosquito breeding spots.
