Sri Lanka: Sudden death of fish in tanks in Vavuniya June 19,2019   |  Source: Hiru News LK

Residents of the area said that due to the drought prevailing in the district of Vavuniya a situation has arisen by now where fish in several tanks in Vavuniya have died. Area residents said that fish in the Vavuniya – Munamaduwa tank have been dying since several days ago and there is a terrible stench in the area.

In addition, the water level in the tank has gradually dropped and residents of the area said they believe that that is the cause for fish dying. The Public Health Inspector’s Office in Vavuniya has been informed of this incident and the Public Health Inspectors of Vavuniya had visited the area yesterday (17) conducted investigations into fish dying.

Public Health Inspectors who inspected the tank said that they suspect that the fish died due to the water level in the tank dropping and the water heating up and the lack of oxygen percentage in the water.
