Andhra Pradesh: Two fishing harbours likely to come up in north-coastal AP by V Kamalakara Rao August 14,2019   |  Source: Times of India

Water and Power Consultancy Services Limited (Wapcos Limited) is likely to submit a detailed project report (DPR) to the Union government for setting up a fishing harbour at Budagatlapalem, a coastal village in Etcherla mandal in Srikakulam district, according to officials of the state fisheries department.

The project is one of the 28 fishing harbours sanctioned by the Union ministry of shipping under its Sagarmala project with an investment of Rs 4,142 crore. The government has sanctioned the budget and is looking to complete the construction of the harbours by 2022. Speaking to TOI, joint director of the state fisheries department for Srikakulam district, VV Krishna Murthy, said, “The current feasibility studies for the fishing harbour at Budagatlapalem are at the ending stage. The reports will shortly be submitted to the government for starting the project, which is much needed for the district.”

The Bangalore-based Central Institute of Coastal Engineering for Fishery (CICEF) had identified Budagatlapalem as a suitable place for the fishing harbor, after studying Kalingapatnam and Bandaruvanipeta in Srikakulam district two years ago and proposed the same to the Union government, which appointed the Wapcos to prepare a DPR, Krishna Murthy said.
