Union minister and city MP Nitin Gadkari on Sunday called for increasing sweet water fishing in East Vidarbha through by setting up an expert committee of all stakeholders in the state and central governments during his speech on ‘Opportunities to MSMES in Agriculture and Food processing industries’ at Agrovision. Gadkari said East Vidarbha has around 7000 malagujari tanks besides several streams and fresh water reservoirs where fishing is done. “Our prawns are quite famous and sell at a premium price of Rs 800 kg. We can increase the production by tapping more resources,” he said. He said he would invite 6,000 fishermen from Vidarbha at Suresh Bhat Hall where the expert committee can tell them how to make the business more lucrative. Top officials from Central government’s department of fisheries and Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSME) besides scientists from food processing institutes were present.
