Bangladesh: Flood likely to worsen in Dhaka July 27,2020   |  Source: New Age BD

The official estimate showed 97,104 more people got freshly marooned in the last 24 hours until Sunday afternoon as flooding mostly worsened with Flood Forecasting and Warning Centre announcing that the situation might remain more or less the same throughout the month. According to the latest special 10-day flood forecast, flooding would get worse in Dhaka over the next seven days and the situation in Kurigram, Bogura, Gaibandha, Jamalpur, Sirajganj, Tangail and Manikganj districts would not improve until early next month. The disaster management department’s daily flood report said that 43,78,732 people have been affected in 31 districts since the flood began on June 27 while 35 got killed.

The health emergency control room, however, said that 119 people died because of flood-related causes since June 30. ‘Eastern part of Dhaka city such as Demra, Khilgaon, Shabujbagh, Mugda, Badda and Satarkul might see water engulfing parts of them over the next seven days,’ FFWC executive engineer Arifuzzaman Bhuiyan told New Age. Dhaka district relief and rehabilitation officer Mohammad Hossain said that they have been warned about a rapid deterioration in flood situation from today.
