  • Description
  • After the devastation that occurred in the aftermath of the 2004 tsunami, the people of Banda Aceh in northern Indonesian province, regrouped in two months, pulling their optimism together, in order to rebuild their lives and town. This short film tells their story of hope, unity and inspiration. They strived to shape the city not according to what the donor wanted but in the image of what the people needed. Panglima Laot, which translates as “sea commanders”, is a customary social institution that organizes the nature and modality of fishing in the sea. It is not just a regulatory body, but also a system of leadership for the fishermen community in Aceh.
